Tamaki College

Recently some of the year 7 and 8 students have been walking down to Tamaki College. We do this to play sports. If you're wondering where is Tamaki College, it is located in Glen Innes, Auckland. Most of the students are Maori or Polynesian.
The main reason why we go there for sports is because it is closer to our school. It is good fitness for us. It is really fun! We get to get out of class and it is just up the road from Pt England.

The year 7 and 8’s are put in teams of 7 (10 to 12 per team) by the students. Mixed, boys and girls teams. In each team there are two Tamaki students as tutors. Our tutors are year 12 and by doing this they can earn NCEA credits. We do this each week and each week we get to do different activities.

The activities we do are high jump, obstacle courses, chain tag, trist fall, relays, orienteering, amazing race and rope jump. All of the games encourage us to cooperate and participation. It helps us do the 3P’s

High jump. In high jump you have to jump over a bar and land on a mat. If you fail you are out. The obstacle course is when you are blindfolded and you have to go thru an obstacle course with a partner guiding you. Now this activity is all about trust. If you touch the ground or take the blindfold off you are out and you will have to restart

Chain Tag is a game of teamwork in the beginning there is only one tager and when that person tags someone else they will have to chain up together and both of them will be the tager. Trust fall is a trust test. You stand on a deck and close your eyes. Lean back and fall. There will be people at the bottom of the deck who will have to catch you. If you trust them this will be easy.

Relays is a race with others. You run on a track, when you are done you tag the next person and they will run. Orienteering is using a map. Trying to find things. This is a good active because it teach you how to use a map just incase you get lost in the future. Amazing race is a long race with different activities. In the race there will be clues to help you. Rope jump is trying to get your whole team over a rope without touching it. It involves teamwork.

Fitness is really Important. It helps you stay healthy. You can lose weight. It is really fun. It makes it easier to participate and it helps you stay in shape.

Cyclone Lusi

As heavy rain fell to the earth there was a huge storm. News reports were giving advice on how to keep safe. Rough winds blew tree branches. Dark clouds covered the whole of Auckland. Large waves crashed against the shore. Cyclone Lusi was on her way.

Luckily Cyclone Lusi was not as bad as expected. If it was, we would have suffered serious damage. There could have been deaths and accidents. We would have had food and water shortages. It might have forced schools to shut down for the safety of the children.

Cyclones can create serious damage, like landslides and land slips. It can create power cuts and storms. It can smash  buildings and trees. It can cause huge waves that flood some homes. It can cause flying debris and storm surges. If its really bad, people would have to evacuate the city.
Have you ever wondered what a cyclone is? Basically it is a system of winds spinning anti clockwise (northern hemisphere) or clockwise (southern hemisphere). Its like a vortex. It can cause crazy storms! The middle of a Cyclone is called the eye of the storm. Cyclones can cause severe damage to peoples property.

To prepare for Cyclones you should secure objects outside in case they go flying through your window. Stay inside to keep safe. Store a radio, candles and torch. Keep pets safe. People panic in fear during cyclones but it is best to stay calm.

Fia Fia 2014

Have you ever been in a Fia Fia performance before? Well recently Pt England school have been practicing for a new 2014 Fia Fia. I have the job of picking up all the junior students who are in my group. I also bring them with me to our group practices. I’m in the Tongan boys group.

The main reason why I wanted to be in this group is because I am Tongan and I like learning about my culture. Our tutor is a man called Mr Lofi and our teacher is Mr J. We are doing a traditional dance, a Tongan war dance. Mr Lofi will be drumming.

The practices start at 2:00 and end at 3:00. So It takes one hour. We practice every week on Thursday. I love practicing!

The groups are Niuean, Tongan, Jump Jap, Samoan, Asian, Kapa Haka, Hip Hop, Bollywood, Cook Island and Fijian. There are so many groups! Some groups are modern and contemporary and some are traditional.

Fia Fia will be held at Pt England school on the top field. Mr J will be creating an even bigger stage than last year. Last year we held a 2013 Fia Fia and the stage was quite big but this year the stage will be even bigger.

I have been loving our Fia Fia practices and I’m really looking forward to our Fia Fia. If you want, you can even come and watch.

If you would like to use sketchup, you can install it on dight devices like netbooks, computers and laptops. If you want you can also access it on the internet. You'll have to make a new file before you can begin. Then you’ll be able to start.

Who uses it?
A lot of people around the world use it like us students, teachers and designers. Student can use it to create toys. Teachers can use it to make learning gear. Designers use it to help build different parts for new designs
