Papua New Guinea

Papua New Guinea, a place where earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tsunamis are common. About 90% of all earthquakes occur in this area! Its full name is The Independent State of Papua New Guinea.


The capital of Papua New Guinea is Port Moresby. The time zone in Papua New Guinea is GMT +10:00. Most of the people in Papua New Guinea are Christian and believe in god. In Papua New Guinea they speak English, Tok Pisin and hiri Motu.


The Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea is Peter O'Neill born on February 13, 1965 (age 49 years old). Peter was part of the People’s National Congress Party. He became Prime Minister in 2012. He was first elected to the house of parliament in 2002.


In Port Moresby there are 310,000 people. The population for 2014 is 7.4 million. In 2013 there were 7,321,262 people. This chart predicts the population of people there will be in Papua New Guinea in the future.


Papua New Guinea is located north above Australia. Papua New Guinea gained independence in 1975, as before it was a part of Australia. It is part of the continent, Oceania.

The island of Papua New guinea is divided into 3 parts. The right side is Papua New Guinea, in the middle is Papua and on the left side is West Papua. It is in the western pacific.

This is Papua New Guinea’s flag, created by Susan Karike. The five starts in the bottom black part of the flag, represents the southern cross. The names of the stars are Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta and Epsilon.


The colors Red, Yellow and Black are traditional colors. The Yellow bird of paradise represents their freedom and celebrates the country's independence. The Papua New Guinea flag was adopted on July 1, 1971. The flag is almost square shape.


So, Papua New Guinea is a strong independent country. The people there are amazing. It has been an independent country for 39 years.

Papua New Guineans have won three medals in boxing, two in lawn bowls, one in shooting, one in swimming and one in weightlifting.
