World War I

A century from August the 4th 1914 WWI (World War 1) is today. Prime Minister John Key asked schools to do a ceremony to show thanks to the soldiers who proudly represented our country at war and also to raise the New Zealand flag at half mast.

War started in 1914 and ended in 1918. Four years of war! The first war was a global war and was one of the most violent wars. Many people’s grandparents were in that war.

Pt England held an assembly to remember the brave people who died. During the assembly Mr Burt told us to remember this saying “Lest we forget”. It means we should not forget the courageous people who protected us in war. He explained how the war began and we had a minute of silence as the trumpet played.

We should always remember the people who died for us. I hate war as death rains hard on poor innocent people. I'd like to thank all the people who kept New Zealand safe during the war and also thank them for their courage and sacrifice. You should be thanking them as well.
